Madonna’s eighth album released in September, 2000 by Maverick Records was titled Music. There were several producers of this album (Madonna, Mirwais Ahmadzaï, William Orbit, Guy Sigsworth, Mark "Spike" Stent, Talvin Singh) and this time they had chosen house style as the main sound theme.

Madonna recorded a message to her fans before album release, in which she told: "Hey Mr. DJ, put a record on…Hi, it's Madonna. You've probably been hearing about my new record Music for a while. Well, I just wanted to make sure you knew that the single is gonna drop very soon. I worked on it with a French guy named Mirwais, and he is the shit. The album will be released worldwide on September 19, and I hope you like my music." Of cause this statement intrigued public and attracted additional interest to the album.

The new millennium had shown a change in Madonna. Music varied significantly from Madonna’s early albums. The new album featured positive and joyful beats, most part of Madonna’s songs were marked by combination of European dance music influence and American beats. The album sounds up-tempo dance rhythms, electronic beats, folk guitars and the heavy use of the vocoder. Madonna sang several languages: French (Paradise (Not For Me)), Spanish (Lo Que Siente La Mujer) and English. Madonna’s collaboration with French electronica producer and songwriter Mirwais allowed her to record songs in European dance style. This time most part of songs from album Music was recorded not in the USA, Madonna decided to work in Sarm West and East Studios in London, England. Specifically she cooperated again with William Orbit, who was also producer of Madonna’s early album Ray of Light. Without Madonna’s agreement her album was promoted in Internet, having performed songs before their official release, that’s why Warner Bros. Records and Madonna stroke vigorously for closing down such sites with the tracks.

The title track Music was released in August 2000. It was remixed many times and became very popular worldwide. Peaking soon after the release in many charts the track was nominated for Record of the Year, 2000 and its music video has won multiple awards.

American Pie is another song from Madonna’s album Music. This single is a cover of the classic rock song written by singer-songwriter Don McLean and covered by Madonna, who recorded it as a pop-dance song. This track was included on the European, Latin-American, Australian and Asian versions of the album and deserved admire of numerous Madonna’s fans. She performed this single on many shows and tours and the song was number-one hit in several countries.

Music was awarded at the Grammy Awards of 2001 and won as the Best Recording Package. In 2003 Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 452 in its 500 greatest albums of all time.

In 2001 Madonna performed songs from album Music on her Drowned World Tour, and on her 2004 and 2006 tours she also sang Music, Don't Tell Me, and Paradise (Not For Me).

Madonna sold about 13 million copies of album Music worldwide. Music was Madonna's renaissance. It had shown absolutely new Madonna and afforded great pleasure to her fans.
