Bedtime StoriesArtist: Madonna Released: 1994 Songs: 11 Genre: Pop
Madonna's sixth album Bedtime Stories The sixth Madonna’s studio album was released in October, 1994 and titled Bedtime Stories. Madonna used in her new album such genres as Pop, R&B and Trip hop, thus the album was stylistically similar to Erotica. In the beginning of Bedtime Stories creating Madonna continued working with Shep Pettibone. The album included such singles as Secret, Take a Bow, Bedtime Story and Human Nature. As in previous albums Madonna used to take part in songs writing, having added her lyrics in Bedtime Stories. During Bedtime Stories Madonna stopped collaboration with Shep Pettibone. There were many reasons for that and one of them was Madonna’s decision to change the album's direction. The album calls us back to Madonna’s roots as an R&B singer, that’s why this time she chosen producers of another style: Dallas Austin, who was well-known at the time for his work with TLC; Babyface, who had worked with Whitney Houston and Toni Braxton; Dave Hall, who had also produced Carey; and Nellee Hooper, who had produced Soul II Soul. The first single Madonna released from her album Bedtime Stories in September, 1994 was Secret. Originally Shep Pettibone was co-producer of this single. It was he, who produced Erotica. But this version titled Something's Coming Over Me, was never released. The main theme of the song was use of humming, which also would be touched in Madonna’s future albums. The one feel like Madonna's lyrics is discovering a secret. Secret single became extremely popular worldwide and achieved top hit ten in Switzerland, Canada, Japan, France and others. The Bedtime Stories album was probably the most confrontational of all Madonna’s albums. The song Human Nature was directed towards critics, who didn’t approve her book SEX and Body of Evidence movie. Madonna asked them "Did I say something wrong? Oops, I didn't know I couldn't talk about sex". The song socked it to all critics and shown them she didn’t agree with their opinion. That’s why the radio version was cut. Unlike everything Human Nature became Madonna’s new hit popular in clubs and on the dance floors. It achieved top places in different dance charts in US, besides the single was popular in several charts around the world including the UK, Canada, and Japan. The Human Nature video was nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards: Best Dance Video and Best Choreography. Madonna performed Human Nature on her 2001 Drowned World Tour. The song Bedtime Story was released by Madonna in April 1995. This single was a collaboration of between Madonna and Icelandic popstar Björk. The Bedtime Story is Björk's own comment of Madonna's aesthetic. The style the song was written in - Trance/House - seemed to be quite unusual for Madonna. Unlike that Bedtime Story became a successful project in UK and Canada, being a dance club hit. About 10 million copies of Bedtime Stories were sold worldwide. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Pop Vocal Album category in 1995. In the US the album was certified triple platinum. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
