The music video for the single Ray of Light from Madonna’s seventh album of the same name was shot in Koyaanisqatsi (the film Life out of Balance, 1982) style was directed by Jonas Åkerlund and produced by Nicola Doring. Scenes for the video were filmed in March, 1998 at Raleigh Studios and at one of Los Angeles nightclubs.

The video is a day in up-tempo life filmed in 4 minutes. It featured slow motion and the rapid lapse of time scenes of cities, life of common people and different landscapes across the United States and various cities, such as New York, Las Vegas and Sweden, Stockholm. Madonna is shown bangling over those fast running time, symbolizing time going fast forward at the speed of light, going faster than a ray of light. Blue sky is everlasting and life is “Faster than the speeding light shes flying Trying to remember where it all began”, she sings.

Madonna released a live performance of Ray of Light filmed in August, 2006 at Wembley Arena in London, England as music video to perform The Confessions Tour CD+DVD.

In 1998 Grammy Awards Madonna’s Ray of Light video won in nomination “Best Music Video Short Form”. It was was ranked #40 on VH1's 100 Greatest Videos, ranked #7 on Listed's Top 40 Memorable Videos Pt.1&2, on MuchMoreMusic, and became number 26 on MuchMusic's 100 Best Videos.
